Many Christians look for shortcuts to the power of God.

To try shortcuts is to become, at best, frustrated; at worst, a false teacher or prophet. Listen very carefully: There is tremendous power for us in God, but not without holiness. Holiness precedes power.

When John Saw Jesus

Then Jesus arrived from Galilee at the Jordan coming to John, to be baptized by him. But John tried to prevent Him, saying, "I have need to be baptized by You, and do You come to me?" But Jesus answering said to him, "Permit it at this time; for in this way it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness." Then he permitted Him. After being baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the Heavens were opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove and lighting on Him, and behold, a voice out of the Heavens said, "This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well-pleased." Matthew 3:13–17

Let us understand this prophet, John the Baptist. According to the Scriptures, John was filled with the Holy Spirit "while yet in his mother's womb" (Luke 1:15). We are also told his coming was in the spirit and power of Elijah. Historians tell us that John's penetrating, uncompromising ministry led nearly one million people to repentance. Vast multitudes left their cities and towns and went into the wilderness to hear the prophet and be baptized into repentance in preparation for the Kingdom of God.

Only Jesus knew the fallen condition of the human heart more perfectly than John. No class of people escaped the Baptist's judgment: soldiers and kings, sinners and religious leaders alike were all brought into the "valley of decision." John's baptism was more than a simple immersion in water. He required a public confession of sins as well as the bringing forth of righteousness (Matthew 3:6, 8).

Prophets are Aware of Things Hidden by Man

Jesus testified that John was "more than a prophet." He said, among those born of women, "there has not arisen anyone greater than John" (Matthew 11:9–11). John was a "seer prophet," which meant he had open vision into the spirit realm. He testified that "I have seen the Spirit descending as a dove out of Heaven" (John 1:32). He saw "the wrath to come" (Matthew 3:7). He witnessed "the Kingdom of Heaven" (Matthew 3:2).

John had insight into the secrets of men's hearts. His vision penetrated the veneer of the well-respected Pharisees; within their souls he saw a "brood of vipers." Understand this about prophets: they are aware of things that are hidden from other men.

But when Jesus came to be baptized, before the Heavens opened and the Holy Spirit descended, John saw something that was overwhelming even to his standard of righteousness. He gazed at Jesus' heart, and he saw no sins, no lies, no lusts. John saw a level of holiness that, without knowing he was gazing at the Messiah, caused him to utter with astonishment, "I have need to be baptized by You" (3:14).

Jesus, as the "Lamb of God" (John 1:36), was without spot or blemish. This is exactly what the prophet beheld in Jesus: spotless purity of heart. Christ's virtue took John's breath away! The powerful emanation of Christ's inner purity made John immediately aware of his own need. When John saw Jesus, he discovered a level of righteousness that was higher, purer than his own. This great prophet looked into the heart of Jesus, and in the brightness of Christ's holiness he cried, "I have need."

And so it is with us. Each time we see Jesus, each successive revelation of Christ's purity makes our need more apparent. As Christ's holiness unfolds before us, we cannot but echo the same cry of John the Baptist: "I have need to be baptized by You!"

Yet, in the beginning of our walk, we embraced life in our own strength, trusting in our own skills for success and attainment. Yes, we turned to God, but mainly in times of grief or trial. However, as the Lord brings us into maturity, what we once considered strengths are actually discovered to be weaknesses. Our pride and self-confidence keep us from God's help; the clamor of our many ideas and desires drown the whisper of the still small voice of God. Indeed, in God's eyes, the best of human successes are still "wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked" (Revelation 3:17).

A Mature Christian will be Both Holy and Powerful

In time, we discover that all true strength, all true effectiveness—yes, our very holiness itself—begins with discovering our need. We grow weaker, less confident in our abilities. As the outer shell of self-righteousness crumbles, Jesus Himself becomes God's answer to every man who cries for holiness and power in his walk.

We may think we have spiritual gifts, we may presume we are holy, we may rejoice with human successes, but until we see Christ and abandon our reliance upon our self-righteousness, all we will ever have, at best, is religion.

Oh, let us grasp this truth with both hands; let it never slip from us. Jesus Himself is our source of holiness! We are so eager to do something for Him—anything, as long as we do not have to change inside. God does not need what we can do; He wants what we are. He wants to make us a holy people. Let us not be anxious in this process. Allow Him to do the deep inner work of preparation. Jesus lived thirty years of sinless purity before He did one work of power! His goal was not to do some great work but to please the Father with a holy life.

Hear me; our goal, likewise, is not to become powerful but to become holy with Christ's presence. God promises to empower that which He first makes holy. Do you want your Christianity to work? Then seek Jesus Himself as your source and standard of holiness. Do you want to see the power of God in your life? Then seek to know Christ's purity of heart. If we are becoming the people Jesus calls His own, we should be growing in holiness. A mature Christian will be both holy and powerful, but holiness will precede power.

From The Sea of Galilee, Israel
February 8, 2011 - The Sea of Galilee, Israel

God says, “In times past when Israel was forsaken, did I not bring forth a resource, or make things happen for them?  I have always protected Israel.  (Looking over the city)  I’ve always protected you, I’ve always taken care of you; I’ve always looked after you.  I’ve always made a way for you.  Do you think I won’t now?  I’ve already found a resource for you.  I’ve already made a way for you,” says the Lord.  “I’ve made a way for you, Israel, so that you will not need Egypt.  You will not need them.  There is a resource; there are resources in the ground.  I will protect you.”

“But they shall say, ‘What has happened to Egypt and what has happened to the United States?’”  And the Spirit of the Lord says, “Even as I protected them at that time with supernatural miracles, I will make a miracle take place.  I will cause a miracle to take place on your shores.  I will make a miracle take place and cause you once again to be seen as the light of the world.  You will be seen, Israel.  You will be seen as a mighty, mighty nation,
says the Lord.

“And listen, they shall say, ‘What shall we do now?’ for another shall be raised up.  And they shall say, ‘What is happening in Egypt?’  Then he shall be on for a while, and then another one shall be raised up again.  And they shall say, ‘Look, he has gone down as well – maybe we need the old president; maybe we need what we lost.  What are we going to do now?’” The Spirit of the Lord says, “I will make a way for you in the wilderness as I did before. They shall say, ‘Egypt is gone, what has happened?  One has been toppled; another one has toppled.  What do we do now?  Mubarak, come back.’”

But God said, “It shall not be like that, for I shall do a very, very unusual thing,” says the Spirit of the Lord, “that people shall not know what to say about it.  They shall look around and they shall say, ‘Where do we go?’  And Israel, I will raise you up and I will cause light to come from you, and a resource where – they shall say, look, they do not need, they do not need Egypt, they do not need the surrounding nations. That is the promise that I have for you,” says the Lord.  “Therefore, do not fear; I am with you.”

Not an Accident But Parallel Revolution Taking Place in the Heavenlies

In the recent days, all eyes have been focused on the many disturbing events unfolding before us around the world. Like me, I believe many Christians are also asking our Heavenly Father for the spiritual significance of these events. Please allow me to share the impressions that I received regarding these matters.

Ephesians 1:9-10: He (God and Father) made known to us the mystery of His will according to His good pleasure, which He purposed in Christ, to be put into effect when the times will have reached their fulfillment – to bring all things in Heaven and on earth together under one head, even Christ.

Ecclesiastes 3:1-3, 7, 14: There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heavens... a time to plant and a time to uproot... a time to tear down and a time to build, a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak... a time for war and a time for peace. I know that everything God does will endure forever; nothing can be added to it and nothing taken from it. God does it so that men will revere Him.

God is preparing the way for a new move of His Spirit. To accomplish this He has to uproot every authority (whether a leader or an organization) that stands in the way of His plans. The political upheavals taking place in the Middle East and the destruction of the Cathedral which was a landmark in Christchurch, New Zealand – are symbols and a warning to us that God means business and that our God reigns. He is in full control of all things that are happening around us right now.

Modern Day Ezra, King Cyrus and King Darius will Arise

When God was ready to rebuild His temple in Jerusalem after the long years of exile of the Israelites, He stirred up the heart of Ezra and the people and even the heathen kings at that time so that God's plans to rebuild His temple in Jerusalem would start. So in the same way for the past years, the Lord had been calling His people to rebuild their individual temples (our hearts ). He's called us to draw near to Him, to humble ourselves before Him, to seek His will for us and to follow where He will lead us.

Many of His children have hearkened to that call and have determined in their hearts to follow the Lord and do what He tells them. In the process of doing so, many gave up prosperous jobs, businesses, ministries, or redirected their future plans to follow God's call, even if it meant going on a wilderness journey with God. These are the modern day Ezras whom God has chosen to be a part of His new move.

Right now, you may seem like a nobody with nothing to show for yourself. But you never gave up on that vision which God has planted in your heart. Like Ezra, you have cried, mourned and wrestled with the Lord in the past years, waiting and watching for the time that God would come to your aid.

Fear not for that time is near. When the time is right, you will find the Lord opening the way for you. He is at present preparing the structure and when all is set, you will find modern day King Cyrus and King Darius sent by the Lord to provide for you and to help fulfill the visions He has given you.

Face of the Coming Anointing

The face of the coming move of God will be different from what we have heard or experienced before. This new move will be a MARKETPLACE ANOINTING. It means that it will not be limited to certain places or type of settings or a particular person or organization. But rather, for every person or group who continually seek God for His plans and are diligently following God will suddenly find themselves immersed in that anointing. There will be no boundaries to this anointing, nor will there be any specific grouping. It will go beyond the churches of God. It will cover many areas of life. God intends to reclaim His Kingdom, totally.

People from many sectors have been chosen to become the modern day Nehemiahs. Nehemiah led in the rebuilding of the walls of Jerusalem. God has chosen people to rebuild the many facets of His Kingdom. Even today there are many modern day Nehemiahs already called by God. They have received instructions and visions from the Lord, teaching them how to improve on their current works so that God's heart will be carried out.

Justice, righteousness, love for the poor, reaching out to the widows, arts to influence our young people, godly governance and many other facets of God's plans have already been planted in the hearts of His people. All they need to do is to see these executed in FULL MEASURE SO THAT THE WORLD WILL TAKE NOTICE AND GOD'S NAME WILL BE REVERED AGAIN.

The season has started, all the works that you have sown for God's Kingdom through the years will soon be made known to men. Take heart, for as you have sown with tears, you will soon reap with joy (Psalm 126:5).

Watch and wait, for the battle indeed belongs to God. Be faithful with what you can do and He will take care of the rest.

Pray this prayer with me:

Dearest Father, oh we cry out to You for our nations. They lie in ruin in many areas. Forgive us for our complacency. Stir up our hearts once again, so that we can feel Your heart's cry. Open our eyes so that we will see what You've seen. Give us Your wisdom, courage and boldness so that we will once more stir our nations toward You.

Help us, Holy Spirit. We need Your anointing and we need Your infilling. Shake us, shape us, and send us where we are needed. We long for You, O Holy Spirit. Come and burn our hearts once more with Holy Fire. Jesus, dear Jesus, help us to be partakers of all the intercession. You have done on our behalf. Forgive us for our unfaithfulness and draw us near to You again. We long to do Your will. Help us as we pray. Amen
