We would like to share this message to go into the subject of verifying prophetic impressions or prophetic words.

 

There are three origins for a prophetic word: the Spirit of God, the spirit of misapprehension (note: of demonic origin) and ones own flesh (note: own will). It is possible to receive a prophetic word from God and manipulate it through ones own will (note: own wishes, ideas, conditioning) afterwards. Main subject of our devotion should always be the LORD, and He should always be the centre and focus of our concerns.

 

It is inevitable that all spiritual experiences take our heart and our passion into a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ.

Furthermore it is indispensable that we don't overreact on spiritual experiences.

Take for instance the encounter John had with the angel in Revelation 19:10, where the apostle was in danger of changing his worship because of the significance of the revelation. Consequently he was admonished by the angel to maintain true worship, i.e. to worship God alone.

 

10 At this I fell at his feet to worship him. But he said to me, “Don’t do that! I am a fellow servant with you and with your brothers and sisters who hold to the testimony of Jesus. Worship God! For it is the Spirit of prophecy who bears testimony to Jesus.”

 

Hence it is vital we use a verification scheme in accordance to the word of God to find out whether the prophetic impressions we receive are indeed a directive from God.

 

 

It is important that our mind, body and soul are completely submitted unto the LORD and that we are sober, earnest and pure in our heart before God, if we want to correctly determine whether a prophetic intuition addressed to us comes from God (see Matthew 5:8; John 3:3; 2 Timothy 4:5 i.c.w. 1 Peter 1:13; 1 Peter 5:8).

 

8 Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.

 

3 Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.”

 

5 But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry.

 

13 Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming.

 

8 Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. (note: with words- Satan, the old serpent seduced Adam and Eve in the Garden Eden.; see Genesis 3:1ff.).

 

 

There are believers among the people of God who are afraid of the unknown and supernatural experiences.

This kind of fear contains the unsustainable statement that supernatural experiences are dangerous and should be avoided to prevent deception and hopelessness.

Even if there are possible dangers regarding spiritual experiences such as someone remaining outside the boundaries of the word, way or will of God in any area of his life, we should not close our minds to God's prophetic words.

Just as is the case with the supernatural there are also possible dangers in the natural, if we do not abide by the right principles.

 

 

We know that driving a car can be extremely dangerous if we do not abide by traffic rules and regulations.

When we know the laws however, have read the car manual, stay within the bounds of regulation, keep attention and show consideration for others, we most likely will stay safe while driving. Nevertheless, all these risks and inherent dangers should not deter us from getting into a car to reach our destination.

 

Applying this example to the supernatural realm means in any case we should know every element of danger or deceit but at the same time we should not risk to refuse the prophetic realm, as the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy (see Revelation 19:10e i.c.w. 1 Corinthians 14:1).

 

… 10e For it is the Spirit of prophecy who bears testimony to Jesus.

 

1 Follow the way of love and eagerly desire gifts of the Spirit, especially prophecy.

 

 

In his letter to his spiritual son Timothy Paul indirectly mentioned the importance of the fear of God and the acknowledgement of the power by which the genuine prophetic word is released (see 2 Timothy 3:5).

 

… 5 having a form of godliness (note: fear of God) but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people.

 

 

A believers own wishes in combination with impatience can lead to falsification of God's revelatory direction.

=> Likewise an untreated trauma in the soul of a believer can result in a falsification of prophecy in his personal life, so that the believer withdraws from reality by escaping into the supernatural realm and by hiding behind the “revelation” (see Isaiah 14:14a; note by author).

Furthermore a trauma can be tantamount to a camera snapshot.

The picture of a trauma is embedded deeply in the brain of the person.

If a trauma is not dealt with and cleared away it will result in a distortion of the environment of the affected person, as everything is seen through this traumatic snapshot.

During traumatic periods of loss or change in a persons life the devil tries to gain advantage for his purposes.

 

Satan uses trauma to develop the following in the life of the effected person:

 

If these things are not removed these negatives properties will create a root in the life of that person hindering his advancement so that the planned success does not happen (note: partial statement from the notes of Chuck D. Pierce about the 100 Days of Prayer from January 2012/ 99^th day).<=

 

 

If we feel that the LORD is speaking to us during our personal time with Him, then it is important to test that which we perceive as God speaking on the basis of the word of God (see 1 Thessalonians 5:19-22).

 

19 Do not quench the Spirit.

20 Do not treat prophecies with contempt 21 but test them all; hold on to what is good, 22 reject every kind of evil.

 

It is vital to verify each personal revelation we receive on the base of the powerful, living word of God according to Hebrews 4:12. Otherwise we can be deceived, if our heart is not positioned rightly in the centre of the will of God (see Jeremiah 17:9 i.c.w. Matthew 15:19).

 

“The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure.; …” Jeremiah 17:9a

 

„For out of the heart come evil thoughts—murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander.“ Matthew 15:19

 

Also in Jeremiah 10:23 i.c.w. Ephesians 2:8-10 it is revealed to us that it is not up to man to direct his own steps.

 

23 LORD, I know that people’s lives are not their own; it is not for them to direct their steps.

 

8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast.

10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

 

 

For this reason God appointed prophets to His body on earth who aid saints to test personally received intuitions and prophecies if they are not sure, just as revealed in 1 Corinthians 14:29.

 

29 Two or three prophets should speak, and the others (note: prophets) should weigh carefully what is said.

 

Experience has shown that it is advisable for the respective believer to have a certain personal relationship with the prophet to ensure accurate knowledge.

The Lord determined all members in the body of Christ to depend on one another. By this He secures and supports the full complement of the service, as well as supplying spiritual food for every need so that every saint can grow into full spiritual maturity in Christ Jesus (see 1 Corinthians 12:4-7.12-14; Ephesians 4:11-14 i.c.w. Matthew 4:4; Hebrews 5:14).

 

4 There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them.

5 There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord.

6 There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work.

7 Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good; …

12 Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ.

13 For we were all baptised by one Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink.

14 Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many.

 

11 So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, 12 to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up 13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. 14 Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming.

 

4 Jesus answered, “It is written (see Deuteronomy 8:3): ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”

 

14 But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.

 

 

It is God's desire that we remain in the order of His kingdom and intensify our relationship with Him.

One should consider that difficulties can appear in the discipleship and character of a believer's life if he relies solely on spiritual experiences.

This one-sided focus can lead the believer to think his spiritual encounters are a reference to his character and spiritual maturity. But this is not always the case.

 

Love, true worship (see John 4:23-24), as well as faith and obedience towards the word of God are the true hallmarks of an authentic Christian life.
